Overview: Camp HiLine Lake Lodge is located 65 miles NW of Anchorage, Alaska in the Southcentral region. It is in a fly-in and snowmachine-in only remote location situated on 26 acres filled with white spruce and birch trees, most of Alaska's wildlife species, and over 1,000 feet of lakefront on pristine HiLine Lake. Construction on Camp HiLine Lake Lodge began in the summer of 1998 and was completed in 2000. The majority of the camp is constructed from the land's own logs with much of the lumber milled from the trees of the land. This is a true Alaskan old style lodge from the hand milled logs to the hand built chairs. Every aspect of the word "wilderness" exudes from the structures of this camp. The rustic nuance of Alaska is found in almost every detail, in fact, ABC Family TV found the camp to represent the typical dream of the Alaskan wilderness so much that they filmed 2 episodes of the popular teen show Switched here. Camp HiLine Lake Lodge has operated a family and youth camp under the name of HiLine Lake Wilderness Camp since 2001, winter adventure skiing/trekking trips in conjuction with Hitaluga Guide Service since 2001, and for the past 4 years has provided off-season rentals. The camp can accommodate 12 guests and 8 staff.

    The Land, Lake and Location:

The Land: 26 acres of flat land is the property of Camp HiLine Lake Lodge consisting of white spruce and birch trees and over 1,000 feet of lakefront. The entire camp rests on less than 5 acres of the land and is situated on the lakeshore of HiLine Lake. The land is bordered on 3 sides by state and borough land/water, the 4th side is owned by a private party. Originally sold by the state in 1964 to Mr. Howard Acton, we purchased the land in 1997 from him and began the construction of the camp using the knowledge of our many years as owner/operator/builder of a log home building business. While there are other recreational cabins on the lake, we have been the only year-round residents on HiLine Lake for the past 8 years and are the only business within the area. We have established trails to the North, Northwest and to the South for access to one of the state's top sportfishing salmon and trout rivers, the Talachulitna, and over the North end of Beluga Mountain for winter guided ski trips to the village of Skwentna, over 20 miles away. The Talachulitna River has all 5 Pacific salmon species, native rainbows, arctic grayling and dolly varden. Most of the land surrounding the HiLine Lake area is state or borough owned and not for sale. The Talachulitna River is in a management area that does not allow further building. With the limited access to HiLine Lake, it will always remain a remote area.

The Lake: HiLine Lake is approximately 2.5 miles long by 1/2 mile wide and is over 200 feet deep. Carved out by the receding glacier, this lake does not have the typical Alaska "Tundra water" fed by runoff - that brown-looking and smelling water created in shallow lakes. HiLine is a crystal clear, clean source of water fed by underground spring water. Arctic char inhabit the lake and we've caught 16-18 inch fish, but they are a hard fish to catch within this deep lake, making it a knowledgeable angler's challenge. The beach in front of the lodge is cleared of alders and is a fine gravel beach perfect for launching boats and tying up planes. In the winter the lake becomes your access via skiplane. Pack a runway and call the air taxi and voila!, an airport.

The Location: The Lodge is located in a sub-Alpine setting at about 800 feet elevation with 3,699 foot Beluga Mountain directly behind to the East, the Talachulitna River about 2.5 miles to the West, and Denali Mountain at 20,320 feet (the tallest mountain in North America) looming up from the North end of the lake. The setting of this unique location provides the opportunity for many outdoor activities and sports from boating, hiking, fishing and hunting to skiing, ski sailing, snowmachining and more.

Activites and Gear Come with the Sale:

Packrafting: Hiking and rafting combined into one fun wilderness adventure that when launched from the Lodge can be done in a day. We created trails to/from the Talachulitna River allowing groups of 6 access to hiking the Alaska bush, put-in individual packrafts above the river canyons, raft 7 miles of the canyon and hike back to the lake, all in a day. All of the gear comes with this property.

Canoeing: Hiline Lake offers excellent canoeing through it's crystal waters while watching for bears, moose, eagles and more. There is no more relaxing way to enjoy natures bounty than by canoe. The wildlife will allow very close viewing access when approached in a near silent canoe. Six Old Town tough canoes and gear come with this sale. Canoe-rolling off the beach is a favorite with the young crowd in these "impossible to sink" canoes.

Hiking and Geocaching: Day and overnight hiking trips are well outfitted with the gear provided with the sale of Camp HiLine Lake Lodge. From modern GPSs, tents, sleeping bags, cookware, and packs you'll be ready to hit the trail. Geocaching is a fun and mordern way to learn how to travel in the wilderness. Using modern GPS units, the learning becomes a treasure hunt and what better place to explore than the remote bush of Alaska.

Rock & Tree Climbing: All of the rock and tree climbing gear goes with the sale. We have cleaned and created a small rock wall that is perfect for beginners. The tree climbing is the old fashion way with gaffs and saddle, again all of the gear comes with the sale.

Arts and Crafts: All of the arts and craft tools and material go with the sale. Making birch bark baskets from the local material has always been a favorite craft for young and old to enjoy.

Snow Skiing: Winter in Alaska is full of activities and Camp HiLine Lake Lodge has run many guided ski trips over the years to the village of Skwentna to watch the famous Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race mushers come into the 1st remote checkpoint of the race. With the 70 to 80 teams still bunched together it's the perfect spot to watch the top runners amongst the night lights and excitement. The stay at the local Skwentna Roadhouse is truly a treat and an adventure few experience. In addition, ski sailing is a popular way to marry sailing and snow skis. The winter's wind and a lake covered in snow are all that is needed. We've had some get up to 30+ mph. Various sets of telemark style skis, boots and poles along with 4 ski sails go with the sale. All of the gear for the winter overnight treks goes too, including 3, 12'x20' quonset-style tents with 1 wood stove and oven.

Hunting and Fishing: With moose, black and brown bear, an array of furbearers, as well as all 5 species of Pacific salmon, native rainbows, arctic grayling, arctic char, and dolly varden you'll not get bored with hunting or fishing in a lifetime here at HiLine Lake. If space and wilderness are in your sights you've found the perfect place with comfort and access to "The Last Frontier". While not completely isolated, HiLine provides the best of both worlds. Comfort with reasonable access and room to explore what nature has laid out.

Why are we selling? Parents are in their 80s and won't live in Alaska so winter will be spent helping them. Summer will find us still close to HiLine, only 20 miles North on our 5 acres on the Skwentna River. We are down sizing now that the kids have moved on after spending a great time growing up here at HiLine. If you need help with any of the systems, the camp or just how life in general goes out here, just call. We designed and built every stitch of it and know every nut and bolt from the business end to the hammer end.

Compare the Price: Other lakefront properties in the area with land only are selling from $3,000 per acre up to $5,500 per acre. Remote material and labor construction costs are runing over $100 per square foot.
